Police in Lebanon arrest alleged kidnapper and gun dealer

BAALBECK, Lebanon, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- A man arrested Saturday in Lebanon is a suspect in a string of crimes, including at least four kidnappings for ransom, officials said.

Ali Ahmed Jafaar is also suspected of drug and weapons trading, the Daily Star reported. Investigators say he operated in Baalbeck, a town in eastern Lebanon near the Syrian border best known for its spectacular Roman-era ruins.

Several warrants for Jafaar's arrest had been issued, police said. His alleged kidnapping victims included a Syrian man and the son of a prominent businessman in Lebanon.
