ASHKELON, Israel, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- The Israeli air force attacked four suspected terror targets in the Gaza Strip after five rockets were fired at Israel, the army said.
Palestinians said five people were injured in the airstrikes early Thursday that occurred shortly after five rockets fired from Gaza exploded in the Ashkelon vicinity, the Ma'an News Agency reported.
A statement released by the Israeli army said the air force confirmed accurate hits after a suspected terror site, an underground rocket launcher, a weapons storage facility and a weapons manufacturing site in northern Gaza were hit.
The Iron Dome missile defense system successfully intercepted the five rockets fired from Gaza, the army said.
"The Iron Dome once more proved its efficiency in protecting the civilians of southern Israel. Gaza under Hamas rule has turned into a hub of rocket terrorism jeopardizing innocent Israelis in the south of Israel," army spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said.
