Intruder at Buckingham Palace sentenced to 16 months

LONDON, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- A London man who jumped over a barricade at Buckingham Palace with a knife received a 16-month sentence Wednesday.

David Belmar, 44, who pleaded guilty last year to carrying the knife and trespassing, got sentences of 16 months and six months, which were merged, the Daily Express reported. Sentencing was delayed because of a missing psychiatric report.

Belmar was arrested at the palace Oct. 13. Edward Aydin, the prosecutor, said at a previous hearing he was obsessed with Queen Elizabeth.

The queen was at Balmoral at the time.

Belmar, who has psychiatric problems, told investigators he was upset because of a cut in his disability benefits.
