JUAREZ, Mexico, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- A Mexican police officer has been sentenced to prison for forcing a man to swallow bullet casings and threatening to sodomize him with a baseball bat.
Magdalena Gonzalez Avellaneda, a former Juarez police officer, pleaded guilty to the crimes and was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison.
She will also pay more than $11,300 in restitution and will be banned from public service jobs for 15 years, El Paso Times reported.
Officers stopped two men riding on a motorcycle, blindfolded the men, covered their mouths with tape and took them to a nearby juvenile detention center, the state attorney general's office said.
Police then beat the men in an attempt to find out where they sold drugs.
The officers forced one of the men to swallow the bullet casings and placed a baseball bat on the outside of the man's rectum.
The men were then taken to a police station where they were charged with public disturbance.
The man who swallowed the casings suffered seizures and was hospitalized.
