HAMA, Syria, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- A car bomb explosion Thursday in Hama province killed 16 civilians, including women and children, Syrian media reported.
Police said the blast near a school in al-Kafat injured scores of others, the state-run SANA news agency said. SANA reported the bombing damaged many houses and vehicles, and "sabotaged" the town's infrastructure.

SANA also reported a girl was killed in a rocket attack on al-Baath neighborhood in Hama city. A military official said several rockets were fired into residents' houses in the neighborhood, causing the child's death as well as property damage.
