KWANKWASO, Nigeria, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Gunmen attacked the country home of the Kano state governor while the mother and daughter of the Bayelsa state ruler were kidnapped, Nigeria officials said.
In Kano state, a witness said the incident occurred Tuesday after Muslim worshipers finished evening prayers at a mosque attacked Gov. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso's home in Kwankwaso, the Vanguard reported Wednesday.
Security officials said troops were dispatched to the village, but details were scarce.
No one was killed, but dozens of people were injured, police said.
In Bayelsa state, the mother, 74, and daughter, 24, of Bayelsa state monarch M.S. Walter Agiri were kidnapped Sunday by masked gunmen, Leadership newspapers reported.
A security official said community youth are suspected behind the kidnapping and one person was arrested.
"We learned that the gunmen came in two boats and approached the aged royal mother to inquire on how permission can be obtained before the flag of the umbrella body of Ijaw Youth Council can be hoisted up in the community," the official told the Leadership. "The granddaughter, suspecting that the masked men were up to no good, tried to alert the people but was also abducted."
