Western France still on alert for flooding

FINISTèRE, France, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- French officials posted flood warnings in western Brittany Saturday due to high tides along the coast and various riverbanks.

Meteo France maintained its red alert, the highest warning level in France, for the town of Finistre, after tides and blustery weather produced street flooding in several riverside towns this week.

Friday night's high tide caused additional flooding in Qumperle and other nearby communities but the orange alert was lifted in other areas that had been soaked earlier in the week.

Radio France Internationale said a woman was killed Wednesday in Morbihan when a tree fell on her car during the storm.
