Kidnappers abduct five from Doctors without Borders in Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Armed men abducted five members of Doctors without Borders from a house in northern Syria this week, the international aid organization said.

Samantha Maurin, a spokeswoman for the group said in a written statement Friday the five were taken from the house "apparently for questioning."

A Syrian non-governmental organization said an al-Qaida linked organization based in Iraq was behind the abductions, Radio France Internationale said Saturday.

Doctors without Borders operates six hospitals and four clinics in war-torn Syria.
