MADRID, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Madrid has imposed restrictions on the throwing of candy by participants in the annual Epiphany Parade celebrating the Three Kings who visited the infant Jesus.
Candy tossing will only be allowed Sunday on streets with security fences separating the crowds watching the parade from the Christmas carriages, ThinkSpain reported.
A 6-year-old boy was killed last year in Malaga when he was run over by a carriage as he picked up candy.
Many Spanish cities and towns hold Cabalgata de Reyes parades Jan. 5, the day before the feast of the Epiphany.
"You'd be surprised what people are willing to do to get hold of a sweet," Silvia Nunez, a member of the security team in the Madrid district of Villaverde, told the newspaper El Mundo.
