KABUL, Afghanistan, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- A car bomb killed three coalition soldiers and wounded an unknown number of civilians Friday in Kabul, NATO's International Security Assistance Force said.

The explosion took place at 1 p.m. as armed vehicles drove along the highway near the Camp Phoenix, the New York Times reported.

Police have cordoned the area off, and officials are releasing limited information.

The nationality of the victims was not released.

December has been a deadly month for the coalition forces.

Nine other soldiers have been killed in the past 10 days, the Times said.

"For December, six ISAF members died as a result of enemy forces' attacks while an additional six ISAF members died in a helicopter crash, which is still under investigation," a coalition forces representative said.

Friday's bombing came two days after a rocket attack on the American embassy in Kabul, which did not result in any injuries.
