Senussi to be questioned by Britain, U.S. on 1988 Lockerbie bombing

TRIPOLI, Libya, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- British and U.S. authorities will question Abduallah al-Senussi about the Lockerbie bombing that killed 270 people, Libyan Justice Minister Salah Marghani said.

"In order to learn the lessons of history and give rest and assurances and comfort to the families of the victims -- we should know everything about what happened to their loved ones during that terrible, terrible crime," Marghani said.

Libya is working to finalize arrangements with Britain and the United States to ensure the two countries have access to all the evidence, the Libya Herald reported.

Libyan intelligence officer Abdelbaset al-Megrahi is currently the only person to be convicted in the bombing of Pam Am Flight 103, which exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland, Dec. 21, 1988.

Although the international community has welcomed the announcement, many in Libya are worried the investigations could lead to Senussi's extradition, the Herald said.

Senussi, the former intelligence chief for Moammar Gadhafi, is being held in a Tripoli prison and faces charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and human rights crimes.
