Report: Neo-Nazi groups more active in Sweden

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Neo-Nazi groups became more active in Sweden in 2012 after several years of declining visibility, a report said.

The Expo Foundation said the movement has become more concentrated with only 18 active groups, down from 40 in 2008, The Local.se reported. But the number of documented actions jumped 24 percent from 2012 over the previous year, to 1,824.

One of the most active groups, the Swedish Resistance Movement, has been linked to a killing in the Stockholm area, allegedly carried out by two teens with ties to the group, the Local reported. The group has also said it was responsible for an attack last Sunday on an anti-racist demonstration in a Stockholm suburb.

Another group, the Party of the Swedes, formed recently from the remains of other organizations, is the most active neo-Nazi group, the report said, with 1,035 actions attributed to it. The group has taken credit for leaving warnings at media offices against "anti-Swedish propaganda."
