Boy, 11, gets 50 years for murder in Pakistani court

ISLAMABAD, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- A Pakistani judge Saturday sentenced an 11-year-old boy to 50 years in prison for killing the man accused of murdering his father.

The judge in Islamabad anti-terrorism court said he had taken the child's age into consideration and 50 years was actually a light sentence for such a crime, the Indo-Asian News Service said.

Gohar Nawaz was convicted of buying a handgun and sneaking it into the courthouse where he shot handcuffed prisoner Hafiz Ghayas to death in June. Ghayas was in court for a hearing on charges he had killed Nawaz's father.

Investigators said Nawaz had hidden the weapon in a woman's handbag, which was not inspected as he entered the courthouse.
