Kidnapped Italian construction worker freed in Nigeria

ROME, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- An Italian construction worker has been released after being kidnapped last week in Nigeria, the Italian foreign ministry says.

Marcello Rizzo, 55, was working on a bridge project when he was abducted, the Italian news service ANSA reported Friday.

An employee of Gitto Construction, Rizzo had lived in Nigeria for many years.

An Italian engineer and six other foreign workers were kidnapped in February by the al-Qaida-linked fundamentalist group Ansaru.
