KINGSTON, Jamaica, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Three students were injured when the men's dormitory at Jamaica's College of Agriculture, Science and Education was set ablaze.
The incident occurred Wednesday shortly after 4:20 a.m on the ground floor of the building, The Gleaner reported.
Andre Angus, 18, who was stabbed by a classmate on campus Nov. 17, suffered burns to his left arm. The two other students, including U.S. citizen Simeon Johnson, were treated for smoke inhalation. The name of the third student was not released.
"This kind of behavior will not be tolerated," College President Mary Nichols said. "It is obvious that a group of students is hell-bent on creating mayhem and anarchy at this government-run facility. Based on the evidence collected so far, the fire was deliberately lit by students. Students are sitting exams at this time, and I believe it is a direct attempt to disrupt and frustrate those students who have studied hard."
"It is a criminal offense and I will deal with the administrative aspect as soon as the evidence is available. And, of course, the police will be filing criminal charges against those implicated," Nichols said.
Authorities said they recovered bottles containing gasoline, believed to have been used to start the fire, at the scene.
