LONDON, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Prosecutors said the two men suspected of the slashing death of a British soldier on a London street stalked the area for an hour before finding a target.
The killing, which made international headlines, was premeditated, prosecutors told jurors. Various security cameras in South London's Woolwich section captured suspects Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale driving a blue Vauxhall Tigra for nearly an hour May 22 around a military barracks before the killing, searching for a soldier to attack before coming across the victim, Lee Rigby.
In testimony Monday, Rigby's widow left the courtroom in tears as witnesses recounted the grisly scene, The Daily Telegraph reported Monday.
Witnesses told jurors they saw the suspects' car intentionally run down Rigby. Then witnesses said the two got out, armed with guns and several knives including a machete and a meat cleaver and hacked the soldier's body so viciously, his head was nearly sliced off.
Prosecutors have said the motive for the attack was revenge for Britain's military incursions in the Muslim world. The suspects have demanded to be called by their Muslim names in court, the Telegraph said.
Adebolajo and Adebowale are charged with murder, attempting to murder a police officer and conspiracy to murder a police officer. They have already pleaded guilty to a gun charge.
