Priest dies in snow storm in Polish Carpathians

WARSAW, Poland, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- A Polish priest died in a snowstorm after leaving a mountain shelter in the Polish Carpathian mountain range, officials said.

The 74-year-old priest's body was recovered Monday on Mount Turbacz in the Gorce Mountains, Polskie Radio reported.

"He had bad luck. If he had managed to cover just one more kilometer, he would have reached some buildings," Mariusz Zarod of Poland's Mountain Volunteer Search and Rescue organization told the TVN24 news channel.

As of Wednesday, nearly 12 inches of snow had fallen on parts of Polish Carpathians.
