Colombia says hidden lab could make 2 tons of cocaine monthly

BOGOTA, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- A laboratory capable of producing more than 2 tons of cocaine a month was discovered in central Colombia, military officials say.

The lab was discovered in a camp in Puerto Lopez, a city in Meta state, a stronghold of the FARC rebel group, Colombia Reports said Monday.

The camp, with 11 tents, was found during a counter-narcotics offensive by the air force and navy.

The lab had the capacity to produce cocaine with a market value of $60 million each month, authorities said.

FARC, or the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, has been engaged in a civil war with the Colombian government since 1964.
