Poll: Toronto Mayor Rob Ford approval rating virtually unchanged

TORONTO, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Toronto Mayor Rob Ford's approval rating was virtually unchanged in a poll taken after he admitted he had smoked crack cocaine, a poll found.

Forum Research's poll of 1,049 Toronto residents found 42 percent of respondents approve of the job Ford is doing, while 58 percent disapprove, the Toronto Sun reported Friday.

A poll Nov. 6 measured his approval rating at 44 percent.

"They're hanging tough with him -- it is impressive, I have to admit," Forum Research President Lorne Bozinoff said of Ford's supporters. "There is your personal life and all the crazy stuff that you do -- and for sure he's got some crazy things there -- and then there is what you deliver on your job."

The poll found 33 percent said they would vote for Ford in the 2014 mayoral election, and 33 percent said they believe Ford is "good for Toronto," but 60 percent said Ford should resign.

"He's definitely a polarizing person, so you either love him or you hate him," Bozinoff said. "It is easy for the 50 percent who didn't vote for him last time to say you should resign."

The poll was conducted by telephone Wednesday and has a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
