Crews clean up spilled grain after train derails in Canada

FORT FRANCES, Ontario, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Canadian National Railway crews worked Monday to clean up grain that spilled when 39 freight train cars jumped the tracks in Ontario, a company official said.

The 184-car train derailed about 5:45 p.m. Sunday about 15.5 miles east of Fort Frances while heading to Thunder Bay, the Fort Frances Times reported.

Louis-Antoine Paquin, CN regional manager of public and government affairs for eastern Canada, told the newspaper Monday no hazardous materials were involved in the accident and there were no injuries.

"CN crews have responded to the scene and have started removing the cars," Paquin said. "Cleanup and repair activities are expected to last through the day."

The cause of the mishap, the second involving a CN train in the past two days, was being investigated.

Six cars of a train carrying lumber left the tracks in Saskatchewan, just west of Saskatoon, on Saturday.
