CAIRO, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Egyptian military officials said they have killed 11 suspected militants in the crackdown on terrorist organizations in the Sinai Peninsula.

Unnamed Egyptian military officials said soldiers Saturday also uncovered a weapons cache and a workshop for manufacturing explosives, the Ma'an news agency and Israel Radio reported Sunday.

The officials also told Ma'an that soldiers detained six Palestinians, a Jordanian and Egyptian national also Saturday after they were caught crossing into Egypt without travel documents.

In recent days, Egyptian soldiers demolished 18 smuggling tunnels on the border with Gaza near Rafah and confiscated goods that were to be smuggled into the Gaza Strip, Ma'an said.

The Egyptian army began operations in the Sinai against suspected terrorist organizations following the July ouster of former President Mohamed Morsi.
