Denmark agrees to provide protection, transportation in Syrian mission

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Denmark has agreed to provide protection and transportation for troops dismantling Syria's chemical weapons, an official said Friday.

"We have not confirmed the actual number [of soldiers] yet, but it is important to say that from the Danish side we can, with this contribution, give very strong support to ensuring that the Syrian regime can never again use chemical weapons against civilians, children and innocent people," Defense Minister Nicolai Wammen told The Copenhagen Post.

The decision follows a request by the United Nations.

Denmark will send a ship to assist in the mission, the report said.
