ROME, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Ex-Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi says his children told him they feel like Jews in Adolf Hitler's Germany because of alleged judicial persecution.

"My children say they feel like the Jewish families must have felt in Germany during Hitler's regime," Berlusconi told a journalist in an interview for a book.

Berlusconi, 77, is prepared to perform one year of community service for a four-year tax-fraud sentence -- reduced because of an amnesty clause -- that also bans him from public office, ANSA reported Wednesday.

In the more than 20 legal actions filed against him since he was first elected in 1994, Berlusconi has maintained he was the victim of the judiciary's left wing.

He is appealing a six-year sentence for a conviction of having sex with an underage prostitute and abusing his power to hide it, as well as a one-year sentence for his role in the publication of an illegally obtained wiretap.

Berlusconi, who has threatened to bring down Italy's right-left coalition government if his ban from office is enforced, also has been indicted on charges of bribing a senator to switch sides.
