SANTIAGO, Chile, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- A Chile Supreme Court judge said she has rejected an extradition order for 10 Chileans convicted of killing four French citizens.
The Paris Criminal Court found the 10 former officers guilty of committing the crimes during Chile's dictatorship under Gen. Augusto Pinochet, The Santiago Times reported.
The four victims were George Klein, an adviser to former President Salvador Allende; Etienne Pesle, a former priest; Alphonse Chanreau, a leader of the Revolutionary Left Movement, and Jean-Yves Claudet-Fernandez, who was also a revolutionary member.
Among the convicted are Manuel Contreras, a former head of Pinochet's secret police, who has been convicted in many human rights cases, the Times reported.
Contreras has maintained no killings or torture took place in the detention centers.
Judge Rosa Maria Maggi said she rejected the extradition request because Chilean investigators are already looking into the alleged crimes.
"It is Chilean courts that are responsible for trying and prosecuting the criminals for which extradition is requested," her decision reads.
