MONTREAL, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Thousands of people were without power Saturday in eastern Canada after a storm that downed trees and killed a woman in Ontario.
High winds from Friday's storm affected parts of Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
Hydro-Quebec said 90,000 homes and businesses in the southern part of the province were still without electricity at noon Saturday, the CBC reported. Utility workers from Vermont and New Hampshire headed north to help.
A woman was killed near Niagara, Ontario, when a tree fell on her car, police said. She was described as a 56-year-old resident of Port Colborne.
The storm caused problems in both large cities and rural areas. In Montreal, more than 90,000 businesses and homes lost electrical power for some period Friday.
In Laval, Quebec, a shopping center was evacuated because of a gas leak linked to storm-caused roof damage.
