KIDAL, Mali, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Two French journalists were kidnapped and killed while reporting in northern Mali, the French Foreign Ministry said.
Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon, correspondents for Radio France Internationale, were doing their second tour in the dangerous country after having first gone there in July to report on presidential elections. RFI didn't say what the reporters' assignments were on their second trip to Mali.
The men were in Kidal, outside the home of a top MNLA regional leader, Ambery Ag Rissa, Saturday when they were taken hostage. Ag Rissa said he was threatened by the four individuals and ordered to return into his home.
The reporters' driver was ordered at gunpoint to lie on the ground, RFI said.
It's believed Verlon and Dupont were killed shortly after being taken captive.
No groups have claimed responsibility and it's unclear what the motivation was for the abductions.
