CEYLANPINAR, Turkey, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Mortar fire originating in Syria hit a home in Turkey early Monday, killing one man and injuring his daughter, officials said.

Idris Akgul, 33, was at home with his daughter Derya when their apartment building in Ceylanpinar was struck by a shell from Syria, the Anadolu Agency reported.

Akgul was found dead at the scene, while his daughter was transported to a local hospital where she was in stable condition.

Schools in the town were closed Monday due to intermittent clashes between the Kurdish group Democratic Union Party and al-Qaida-linked Syrian opposition factions.
