LONDON, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- A spokesman for Britain's Prince Charles said a Time magazine report saying the prince sees becoming king as a type of "prison" was incorrect.
A Clarence House spokesman denied the Time report, which quoted an official it did not identify as saying the prince of Wales is concerned he will not be able to complete work related to his interests before "the prison shades" close and he is crowned king, the BBC reported Friday.
"This is not the prince of Wales's view and should not be attributed to him as he did not say these words," the spokesman said. "The prince has dutifully supported the queen all his life and his official duties and charitable work have always run in parallel."
Catherine Mayer, who interviewed 50 of Charles' friends and associates for the Time article, told BBC Radio 4's "Today" program "part of a quote" had been "taken out of context" by many news organizations.
Mayer said the widely reported "prison shades" quote referred to concern that Charles taking on more of his 87-year-old mother's duties will have "a big impact on what the prince of Wales actually does already, in terms of time, so the reference was to his dwindling lack of time."
