Pussy Riot member moved to new prison, husband says

MOSCOW, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- An imprisoned member of the Russian feminist punk rock group Pussy Riot has been moved to a new detention camp, her husband said Wednesday.

Pyotr Verzilov reported via Twitter that Nadezhda Tolokonnikova was transferred to a camp in Alatyr in the Russian republic of Chuvashia, RIA Novosti reported. The Federal Penitentiary Service would not say where Tolokonnikova is now incarcerated but confirmed she had been moved from a camp in Mordovia, which borders Chuvashia.

Alatyr is about 500 miles east of Moscow.

Tolokonnikova, 23, Maria Alyokhina and a third member of the group were given prison sentences for a performance in front of the Orthodox Christ the Savior Cathedral in Moscow. Prosecutors said they committed hooliganism inspired by religious hatred.

The third woman's sentence was suspended. Tolokonnikova and Alyokhina are scheduled for release next year.

Prison officials said Tolokonnikova has gone on two hunger strikes this month after being denied special treatment.
