Alleged perpetrators in Rabbani assassination compiled

KABUL, Afghanistan, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Afghan intelligence officials compiled a list of perpetrators allegedly involved in the assassination of former President Burhanuddin Rabbani, officials said.

National Directorate of Security chief Rahmatullah Nabeel said the list of alleged perpetrators -- the number of which was not reported -- was handed over to lawmakers and officials in Pakistan.

Nabeel said intelligence officials arrested Rahmatllah Wahidyar for allegedly facilitating the meeting between the suicide bomber and Rabbani two years ago when the assassination took place near the U.S. embassy in Kabul, Khaama Press reported Wednesday.

Rabbani was killed at his home by a suicide bomber who had posed as a Taliban emissary carrying conciliatory messages, the report said. The killer had hidden the bomb in his turban.
