CARACAS, Venezuela, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- The body of an Italian fashion magnate is among the remains of five people recovered from a wrecked plane off the coast of Venezuela, officials say.
Prosecutor Luisa Ortega confirmed the remains of Vittorio Missoni, his wife Maurizia Castiglioni, another couple and the co-pilot were found Thursday in the ocean north of the Los Roques archipelago, the Italian news service ANSA reported Tuesday.
Ortega, chief prosecutor for the city of Caracas, made the announcement after meeting with the victims' families.
She said the bodies were found inside the aircraft. The body of the pilot had not been found.
DNA samples were taken to identify the individual remains.
The plane went missing Jan. 4 as the group traveled to Caracas from a holiday on the archipelago. A U.S. oceanographic vessel discovered the submerged plane in June.
Venezuelan authorities are attempting to raise the wreckage to determine the cause of the crash.
