BAGHDAD, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Nearly 50 people were killed by suicide attacks Sunday in Iraq, officials said.
Sunday evening, at least 37 were killed and 42 wounded in Baghdad province by a suicide bomber wearing an explosives vest up in a coffee shop in a predominantly Shiite neighborhood in Baghdad, CNN said.
Five suicide bombers attacked government buildings in Iraq's western Anbar province Sunday, killing 5 people and injuring 20 others, police said.
Two police officers and three government officials were killed in the attacks, the BBC reported.
No group claimed responsibility for the attacks, but police said they suspect Sunni Muslim insurgents.
In a separate attack in Anbar province Sunday, police said two militants rigged a car with a bomb and attacked the police headquarters in the town of Rawa. There was no report of casualties from that attack.
In another incident, a suicide bomber blew up the home of a police officer in the city of Samarra. The police officer survived the attack, but six of his family members were killed.
So far this year, more than 6,000 people have been killed in acts of violence in Iraq, officials said.
