BAGHDAD, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- At least 15 people were killed and 60 wounded in a suicide bombing near the northern Iraqi city of Mosul Thursday, police said.
Officials said a truck bomb detonated in the Shiite Shabak community of Muwafaqiya, China's state-run news agency Xinhua reported.

No organization immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
Iraq has experienced an upsurge of violence. The U.N. Assistance Mission for Iraq said nearly 6,000 Iraqis died and more than 14,000 were injured so far this year.
The Shabak people are Muslims, with 65 percent Shiite and 35 percent Sunni.
