JERUSALEM, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- The Israeli Justice Ministry is promoting a bill that would give equal rights to gay couples, a document published Tuesday indicates.
Unmarried couples living together or those who cannot be married would be given equal rights under the joint-life law, Justice Minister Tzipi Livni said.
The measure would allow same-sex couples to enjoy the same rights as opposite-sex couples.
The ministry is also promoting a bill that would give women a position on the committee that elects city rabbis.
The bill calls for women to make up at least 40 percent of the committee.
The ministry is also supporting a measure that would require all couples to sign a prenuptial agreement requiring them to go to therapy and appear in court before being divorced, Ynetnews.com reported.
