Attack against Hezbollah thwarted, car bomb dismantled

BEIRUT, Lebanon, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Lebanese military experts dismantled a car bomb in a Beirut suburb, the army said, thwarting an attack meant to weaken a Hezbollah stronghold.

Security sources said they found the car Monday in the Maamoura neighborhood and began cordoning off the area.

Military experts confirmed the car was rigged with explosives and took the car to a safe location, The (Beirut) Daily Star reported.

Hezbollah members were seen blocking off streets leading to the site.

A few months ago, the southern suburbs of Beirut were targeted with a series of car bombs that killed and wounded dozens.

The area was also targeted with a rocket attack after Hezbollah intervened militarily in the Syrian war.

Hezbollah has increased security measures following the attack, the Star said.
