Family: Morsi won't negotiate, compromise with interim government

CAIRO, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Ousted Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi "will not retreat from his calls for a return to democracy" or compromise with the interim government, his family says.

Morsi was forced from office by the army in July and faces charges of inciting violence, Ahram Online reported Monday.

In a statement published Sunday on a Muslim Brotherhood website, the family said, "no matter how much they try to keep him away, the president will not retreat from his calls for a return to democracy, even if his soul is the price."

The statement was released to mark the Islamic celebration of Eid al-Adha.

"The president will not give up by retreating, negotiating or compromising, particularly after all the martyrs, injuries, detainees and missing," it added.

Morsi is also alleged to have collaborated with Hamas in prison breaks and attacks on police stations in 2011 uprisings that led to the overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak.
