Attack on convoy kills three Senegalese peacekeepers in West Darfur

KHARTOUM, Sudan, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Three Senegalese members of an international peacekeeping force have died, and another was injured, in an attack by gunmen in West Darfur, officials say.

The soldiers were attacked as their police unit, part of the African Union-U.N. Mission to Darfur, escorted a water convoy to UNAMID's regional headquarters, the Sudan Tribune reported. Sunday.

The attackers stole one vehicle. It was recovered about 4 1/2 miles away.

A Zambian UNAMID military observer died Saturday after armed men stabbed him Friday as he parked a mission vehicle inside his residence.

More than 16,000 UNAMID peacekeepers are stationed in Darfur.
