RAMALLAH, West Bank, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- The Palestinian leadership says it might call peace talks with Israel a failure, a senior Palestinian official said.
Hanna Amireh, a member of the Palestinian Liberation Organization executive committee said the issue was raised in a recent leadership meeting.
Amireh accused Israel of trying to "win time" to blame the Palestinians for the failure of the U.S.-sponsored talks, The Jerusalem Post said Thursday.
"All the previous sessions of negotiations have not produced anything. We are now seriously discussing the nature of our steps in the aftermath of the collapse of the negotiations," he said.
One of the options left is for the Palestinians to seek full membership at the United Nations, he said.
Israeli and Palestinian officials met Monday in Jerusalem for the ninth time since the renewal of talks in July. The negotiation process has been given a nine-month framework for the sides to reach an agreement.
In an unrelated incident, a senior Palestinian lawmaker said a heated argument erupted between Israeli and Palestinian delegates attending the 129th Inter-Parliamentary Union summit in Geneva Wednesday.
Lawmaker Azzam al-Ahmad said the Israeli delegates expressed anger after Palestinian and Moroccan delegates suggested including Jerusalem and Israel's settlement activities on the agenda. He said the Israeli delegation withdrew from the meeting, Ma'an news agency said.
