Trial set for ousted Egyptian leader Morsi, Muslim Brotherhood leaders

CAIRO, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- A trial for ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi and senior Muslim Brotherhood leaders is scheduled for Nov. 4, judicial officials said.

Morsi, seven senior leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist leaders are accused of killing and torturing of protesters who demonstrated outside of the presidential palace in Cairo, Ahram Online reported Wednesday.

Morsi, 62, has been held at a secret location since his ouster July 3 after demonstrations against his rule. He also faces charges related to his escape from prison during the 2011 revolution that toppled his predecessor, Hosni Mubarak.

In July, a court ordered Morsi be held for questioning about his alleged involvement with Palestinian militants in prison breaks and attacks on police during the 2011 revolution, Ahram Online said.

Security forces have cracked down on Morsi's Brotherhood since he was ousted, arresting most of the movement's leaders, including its highest authority, Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie.
