The conviction marks the eighth verdict against alleged Pakistani collaborators for their crimes.

The judges' summary verdict stated that Alim committed murder, genocide, looting, arson, abduction and torture with the help of Pakistani troops during the war.

Alim was spared the death penalty because of his health and age, the judges said.

Veterans from the independence war and youth protesters celebrated the verdict on the streets of Dhaka, Bdnews.com reported.
