Anti-narcotics official arrested for allegedly selling heroin

OMSK, Russia, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- A Russian police official who heads anti-narcotics efforts in southwest Siberia was arrested for allegedly selling heroin, officials said.

The official, whose name was not reported, was arrested at a shopping area in the town of Omsk last week, RIA Novosti reported Monday.

Investigators said they found "a significant amount" of heroin and cash on the suspect when he was arrested. Drugs were also allegedly found in the suspect's home and office.

Heroin is the drug of choice for about 90 percent of Russian drug users, RIA Novosti said. The heroin market in Russia is valued at about $6 billion.
