Suicide bombing targets tribal commander's compound, several dead

ISLAMABAD, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- A suicide bomber in northwest Pakistan Thursday attacked the compound of an anti-Taliban tribal commander, leaving several dead and wounded, authorities said.

Dawn newspaper said at least five people died and 15 more were injured when the attacker rammed his vehicle into the compound of Mullah Nabi Hanafi in the Orakzai tribal area. Other reports said Hanafi, who had been fighting the Pakistan Taliban, was not in the compound at the time of the attack.

Geo News, quoting sources, said the attack killed at least 12 people.

Dawn reported Hanafi had been associated with the Pakistan Taliban before he formed his own faction.
