VICTORIA, British Columbia, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Two missing hikers who spent four nights on snowy Mount Albert Edward on Canada's Vancouver Island were being airlifted to safety Wednesday, officials said.
A search-and-rescue helicopter was being used to airlift Jean Simon Lessard, 22, and Christopher Yao, 31, off the Strathcona Park mountain, which received heavy snow since the weekend, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. Their condition wasn't known but they were being taken to a hospital, the network said.
Lessard and Yao reportedly were trying to hike down when they were spotted about 10 a.m. PDT Wednesday, the CBC said.
The two companions left Victoria Friday to hike up Mount Albert Edward and were to have returned home Sunday. They were reported missing Monday afternoon.
