Ten city workers killed in sectarian attack in northern Iraq

BAGHDAD, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- At least 10 people were shot to death Wednesday during an attack on government targets in northern Iraq, officials said.

The victims, all employees of the city of Hawija, died when gunmen attacked City Council offices, CNN reported.

Two car bombs were detonated and several mortar rounds were fired in the attack that also included a police station.

At least three police officers were wounded in a clash with the attackers.

An April incident in Hawija marked the start of escalated conflict between Sunni and Shiite religious sects.
