GIGANTE, Colombia, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- A Colombian man who took more than the recommended dosage of the erectile dysfunction medication Viagra says he needed surgery to repair his penis.
Gentil Ramirez, 66, a former city council member in Gigante, clarified the type of surgery he had when he spoke to The Nation, telling the Colombian newspaper he was recovering from surgery on his penis for inflammation, gangrene and a fracture.
Numerous news reports last week said Ramirez underwent an amputation procedure.
He told The Nation he took more Viagra than he should last week "to surprise my wife."
He went to a hospital several days later after his erection didn't subside.
Ramirez was recovering in a hospital in Neiva, The Nation reported Thursday.
Ramirez said he had taken more pills than recommended previously and had no adverse reaction. He also said he would be more careful.
"The truth is that sometimes one is not careful," he told The Nation.
