KUMAMOTO, Japan, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- A Japanese woman was arrested at an airport after causing a scene, prompting a search of her home that turned up her daughter's decaying body, police said.
The woman, 58, showed up at Fukuoka Airport Saturday without money or a passport. She told an airline worker she wanted to travel overseas. After becoming disruptive, the woman was taken into custody. Police then went to her residence in Kumamoto, where they found partially skeletal remains later identified as the woman's 16-year-old daughter.
Japan Today reported the woman had not seen her husband or friends in years and had pulled her daughter out of school. She also refused visits from child welfare representatives, the newspaper said.
An autopsy revealed the girl had died between two and six months ago. A cause of death was not reported.
