Man with alleged links to Hezbollah gets prison in Thailand

BANGKOK, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- A Lebanese man who led police in Thailand to a warehouse stuffed with bomb-making chemicals was sentenced to prison Wednesday.

The Criminal Court in Bangkok gave Atris Hussein, who holds dual Swedish citizenship, a term of two years and eight months, the Bangkok Post reported. The court convicted him of possession of ammonium nitrate.

Hussein was arrested at the airport when he arrived in Thailand in January 2012. Investigators said they were warned of his arrival by their counterparts in Israel, who said he had ties to the Lebanese group Hezbollah and planned to carry out a terrorist attack.

While Hussein says he was framed by Israel's security service, the Mossad, police said that after questioning he led them to a warehouse where they found almost 3 tons of ammonium nitrate and 4 tons of fertilizer, both potential bomb ingredients.
