Swedish man allegedly molested girls online

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- A Swedish man who allegedly convinced young girls to perform sexually for him on camera via the Internet has been charged with rape, authorities said.

The 45-year-old man faces a long list of other charges, including aggravated exploitation of children and sexual posing, The Local.se reported Tuesday.

An investigation began in March when a 13-year-old girl in Kumla, about 100 miles west of Stockholm, killed herself by throwing herself in front of a train, police said. Investigators found she had been in touch with the 45-year-old online.

The man, a resident of western Sweden, allegedly got the girl to perform sexually via Skype and then told her he would post video online and send it to her teacher and handball coach if she did not repeat the performance for him.

Investigators said made more threats when she begged him to relent and threatened suicide.

Other alleged victims have since come forward, police said. The most serious charge involves alleged sexual intercourse with a girl, while most of the other charges involve online crimes.
