ALEXANDRIA, Egypt, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Violent clashes at Islamist protests across Egypt to commemorate "martyrs" left two people dead, officials said.
Thousands of people gathered at protests organized by the Muslim Brotherhood on Friday to mark the one-month anniversary of the violent dispersal by the police of two pro-President Mohamed Morsi sit-ins that left more than 600 people dead, Ahram Online reported.
"We need to be loyal to the blood of the martyrs," Brotherhood figure Essam El-Erian said in a message broadcasted on the al-Jazeera Mubashar Misr television channel. "We won't surrender to the blunt force of the security state."
At a protest in Alexandria, a man was fatally shot and six others were wounded, the health ministry said. Another man was killed at a protest in clashes between Muslim Brotherhood supporters and opponents in the governorate of Beni Suef.
Six others were injured in Abu-Kebir, the ministry said.
