LONDON, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Grocery stores in England are pulling watercress from shelves as a precaution due to an outbreak of E.coli that has made at least 19 people ill.
Britain's Food Standards Agency issued a recall for six Sainsbury's grocery store brand products that contain watercress due to the E.coli outbreak, the agency said in a release.
"The supermarket is advising people not to consume any of these products and to return them to the store they were purchased from for a full refund," the release said. "Investigations by the Food Standards Agency, Public Health England and local authorities are continuing and further information will be provided once it becomes available."
Public Health England said in a release the E.coli outbreak has been linked to the consumption of watercress.
"Most of the people who were unwell reported buying watercress at Sainsburys. As a precautionary measure Sainsburys have issued a product withdrawal for its bagged watercress and other salads that contain watercress," the PHE release said. "This outbreak is being investigated by PHE and the FSA as a matter of urgency."
